Technical Services Manager – Hydrogen Mechanical Engineering

About This Position…

Our Client is a team of professionals dedicated to introducing advanced Hydro Technology to Australia and the world. As a newly launched start-up subsidiary of a renowned international trading/investment house of Japan, currently expanding their operations fast and seeks for a professional Technical Support Engineer to join their Team.

Primary focus on ensuring high quality technical services are always provided for their internal and external stakeholders involved in their current and upcoming projects.

The role is a full-time position in the heart of CBD Melbourne with a negotiable remuneration package.

For this role, you are required to hold a strong qualification and work experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the renewable energy sector. A successful Candidate will be able to manage and advise technical aspects of assigned projects relating to Energy Transformation (EX) strategy (including renewable energy), hydrogen production and other end-use cases. Your experience in Project Management will be advantaged.

What does your next role look like?

The role includes but is not limited to:

  • Technical lead for project development from pre-feasibility through to delivery, including management and coordination of engineering consultants and contractors
  • Acting as technical representative and providing oversight and assurance for project partners through detailed design, construction, and commissioning
  • Assess technical feasibility of renewable energy and hydrogen production projects
  • conduct technical and environmental due diligence on acquisition opportunities
  • Liaise with internal & external project stakeholders, including project partners, lenders / clients’ technical personnel / advisors, insurance providers, electricity supplier technical personnel and maintain a strong industry network
  • Coordinate and interface with other functional groups, internal teams and Japanese HQ, including the Business Development & Portfolio Management Team and the Accounting & Tax Team
  • Assist the Company’s other team members during negotiations of project documents; direct negotiation on technical issues of project documents
  • Prepare PQ/RFP documents, determine scopes of work, evaluate EPC technical bids and manage EPC contracts
  • Understand local conditions and requirements (e.g. social licence, environment, risk, traditional owner corporations etc.) and ensure project organisations are capable of monitoring changes and developments in local environments

A little about you…

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Chartered and eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in power, renewable energy or a related field. Hydrogen experience considered an advantage
  • Minimum 5 years project management experience with a renewable energy developer, energy company, contractor, or engineering consultancy firm
  • Demonstrated experience in project delivery, risk management, safety management, and technical due diligence of renewable energy or hydrogen projects, with experience during detailed design, construction, and commissioning considered an advantage
  • Broad understanding of engineering principles and commercial impact of engineering decisions and actively communicates this understanding to other team members
  • Familiar with project documentation such as EPC contracts, work breakdown structures, EIA, quality assurance management plans, project execution plans etc.
  • Familiar with permitting and approvals processes for large scale infrastructure, such as wind farms, electricity/gas transmission, or major hazard facilities
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating effective communication across all levels of client organisations, project partners, contractors, and government bodies
  • Willingness to travel frequently (both domestic and overseas) – essential
  • Legal right to work in Australia without restrictions.

Melbourne CBD: Well facilitated with high conveniences, including accessible restaurants/shops and transport.

Working Hour…

9:00am to 5:00pm – Monday to Friday

Salary range…

Up to $250,000 package per year (inc Bonus and Super)

Working flexibility…

Initially, full onsite presence is required. Followingly, optional remote work per week negotiable (2 days/week remote)
