About This Position

Are you an organised and detail-focused Purchasing Officer who enjoys keeping materials, suppliers and production moving?

Our client is a long-established manufacturing business based in Epping, and they are seeking a proactive Purchasing Officer to join their purchasing team.

This is a hands-on role where your work directly supports production operations. You will be responsible for raising purchase orders, following up suppliers, managing stock availability, coordinating external processes, and working closely with production and warehouse teams.

If you have purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment, strong SAP and Excel skills, and enjoy solving problems before they become production issues, this role could be an excellent fit.

As the Purchasing Officer, you will report to the Purchasing & Logistics Manager and work as part of a small purchasing team.

Your main responsibility will be to procure and expedite the delivery of goods, materials, components, services and incidental items required for production. This includes working with suppliers, monitoring overdue orders, supporting stock control, coordinating external processing, and ensuring materials are available in line with manufacturing requirements.

This role would suit someone who is comfortable working with systems, data, suppliers and internal stakeholders. It is not just a desk-based purchasing role. You will be close to the production and warehouse environment, and your ability to communicate clearly and follow things through will be highly valued.

What does your next role look like?

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Raising purchase orders using SAP and spreadsheet data
  • Reviewing supplier performance and following up overdue orders
  • Expediting low-stock items based on SAP reports and production requirements
  • Requesting quotations for stock and non-stock items
  • Purchasing incidental materials, tools, equipment and protective apparel
  • Coordinating purchasing for external processing work
  • Liaising with the warehouse team regarding pickups, deliveries and stock movement
  • Receiving goods in SAP from delivery dockets and packing slips
  • Investigating stock discrepancies and carrying out physical stock checks where required
  • Liaising with contractors for maintenance, repairs and project-related work
  • Supporting weekly production meetings and material planning
  • Working closely with suppliers, warehouse, production and internal teams to keep operations moving

A little about you

To be successful in this position, you will ideally bring:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, inventory control or a similar role
  • Experience within a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, components or factory-based environment
  • Strong SAP skills, ideally SAP Business One
  • Strong Excel and general computer skills
  • Good understanding of purchasing systems, stock control and material flow
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, internal teams, warehouse staff and contractors
  • Logical thinking, analytical skills and good attention to detail
  • Confidence in following up suppliers and negotiating where required
  • Strong time management and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • A proactive, practical and team-focused working style

Chinese language skills would be considered a bonus, but are not essential.
