About This Position

We are currently recruiting a Finance & Accounting Manager for a confidential client based in Melbourne CBD.

This is a rare opportunity to join a well-established business at a pivotal stage of expansion. While the company has already built a strong and stable presence in the Australian market, it is now entering a more ambitious growth phase, with plans to significantly expand over the coming years.

This role has become available due to an internal promotion, as the current finance leader transitions into a more strategic management function. As a result, the business is looking for someone who can take ownership of core accounting responsibilities today, while also showing the potential to grow into broader finance and leadership responsibilities over time.

You will report directly to an experienced Japanese finance leader who has been with the Australian business since its early stage. This creates a valuable environment for mentoring, support, and knowledge transfer, while still offering meaningful responsibility and room to grow.

This position will suit a finance professional who is not only technically strong, but also motivated by the idea of growing with a business and building a long-term leadership career.

What does your next role look like?

This is a broad, hands-on finance role with visibility across the business. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing day-to-day accounting operations across AP, AR, reconciliations, payments, and financial records
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Supporting audit, tax, compliance, and statutory reporting requirements
  • Liaising with auditors, ATO, external service providers, and internal stakeholders
  • Communicating with Japan head office in relation to finance and accounting matters
  • Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Supporting process improvements, financial controls, and reporting accuracy
  • Working closely with internal teams across departments in a collaborative way
  • Contributing to the finance function during a period of business growth and operational expansion

This is not a narrow back-office role. It is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to build from accounting into wider finance, and eventually toward more strategic leadership responsibilities.

A little about you

  • Solid accounting and finance experience, ideally within Australia
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, audit support, compliance, and accounting operations
  • Ability to work confidently in both Japanese and English
  • Japanese language skills sufficient to communicate smoothly with head office in Japan
  • English language skills sufficient to liaise with auditors, ATO, and external stakeholders
  • A proactive and hands-on working style
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well across teams
  • A positive attitude toward growth, change, and taking on responsibility
  • Genuine long-term interest in growing into broader finance or leadership responsibilities

Highly regarded:

  • Audit background, including experience gained in a Big 4 environment
  • Experience in retail, consumer goods, or other stock-based businesses
  • CPA or CA qualification, or interest in working toward one
  • Experience with ERP systems and finance process improvement
  • Interest in developing beyond accounting into finance, commercial, or business leadership areas
